Summer Session
There will be 2 blocks of summer lessons in 2010. The first will run for 6 weeks beginning May 17 and continuing through June 24 at a cost of $120. The second block will be for 5 weeks beginning July 5 and continuing through August 5 at a cost of $100. Due to the heat, lessons will only be held in the evenings, Monday through Thursdays, so enrollment will be limited to about 40 riders per session. In case of rain, we will have grooming / ground school lessons inside the barn. Scholarships are available upon request. Riders are responsible for payment of the full lesson session unless a lesson is cancelled by RHR – full payment for each session attended is required in advance of the first lesson. For enrollment information, please call the barn office at 752-0153.
Fall Session
The fall 2010 lesson session will last 10 weeks, beginning Monday, September 20, 2010 and continuing weekly through Friday, December 3, except for the week of Thanksgiving, Nov 22-26, when no classes will be held. Lessons will be scheduled once a week Monday through Friday in the daytime and evening. In case of rain, we will have grooming / ground school lessons inside the barn. Cost for the session will be $200 ($20/lesson) with a deposit of $60 required to reserve a lesson slot. Scholarships are available upon request. Riders are responsible for payment of the full lesson session unless a lesson is cancelled by RHR. For enrollment information, please call the barn office at 752-0153.
Volunteer Training
There will be a training and orientation session for new volunteers on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10 AM (call the barn office in case of rain that morning). Anyone interested can come out to the barn at that time – be prepared to work around the horses – wear suitable clothes and sturdy shoes. Minimum age to volunteer in the lesson program is 14. We will review general barn policies and safety procedures. All new volunteers will have an opportunity to practice sidewalking (no horse experience is required); volunteers with the requisite horse experience may try out to be horse leaders. All volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 1 hour per week for the duration of the lesson session. For more information, please call the barn office at 752-0153.
Scholarship Fund
Thanks to the following organizations whose recent grants and donations in 2009-10 have allowed the RHR Scholarship Fund to sponsor almost 600 individual lessons for about 40 students: Women for Women Fund, Bank of America Foundation, Carolina Hurricanes Kids 'N Community Foundation, American Quarter Horse Foundation, AgCarolina Financial Foundation, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Greenville, the University City Kiwanis Club, and the Children's Miracle Network.
Thank you also to the Equus Foundation for a grant that will fund some of our general operating expenses in 2009-10
